The business meeting began first thing Friday morning with breakfast. Christy Sammon, GoRail, led off with an informative federal legislative update as well as some insight about what is going on in the freight rail industry around the country. GRA President, Craig Camuso, then moderated a legislative panel with Representative Brett Harrell, Representative Teri Anulewicz, Senator Tyler Harper, and Joe Arbona, G&W.
With the passage of HB 735, a short line tax credit bill, members were anxious to discuss what comes next. Mark Middleton interviewed Mark Mickelson, Mickelson & Company, about the implementation of the bill.
After a quick break, Chet Welch, Rail and State Safety Oversight Program Manager, GDOT, and a host of speakers from GDOT presented an Intermodal update on all areas of transportation including aviation, ports/waterways, public transit and rail.
This was followed by another panel, “Freight Rail: Looking Forward”, consisting of Representative Kevin Tanner, Seth Millican, Georgia Transportation Alliance, Josh Waller, GDOT, and Conner Poe, Norfolk Southern. The panel fielded questions from Mark Middleton and the GRA audience.
Incoming President, Ben Tarbutton, closed out the meeting with summary remarks looking forward to the next year. Upon adjournment, the GRA Board met over lunch.
