I was happy to be nominated and elected President of the Georgia Railroad Association at the annual meeting June 8th at Jekyll Island.
I was glad to see everyone that attended and it was a great place to have our meeting. I would again like to thank our railroads and associate members who were in attendance and also the members that were unable to attend for their continued support.
The work of the Georgia Railroad Association is very important to everyone involved in the rail industry.
Over the past several years we have begun to get our message out to lawmakers, economic development groups, and the public in general. The message remains constant, and that is the railroad industry can help alleviate stress in the highway transportation system.
It is important that we continue this trend. We can help do this by getting to know our State representation where we operate. They need to know what the rail industry means to the State of Georgia and the communities which we serve.
Freight transportation remains at record levels with no signs of lessening in the near future. In fact, all reports from the transportation sector indicate that freight transportation needs will continue to grow significantly over the next fifteen to twenty years.
I believe the railroads in Georgia, and across the nation, are up for the challenge.
I would again like to thank all of our railroad members and associate members for the continued support of the GRA. It will take all of us to keep this important organization strong and working for the good of the railroad industry.
